G.GRADWOHL got well known due to his works with THREEO(3 records out, incl. a live CD with guest Bob Berg, festivals and tours all over the world, best Jazz album 1998 in Austria) and the legendary instrumental group TANGERINE DREAM-several albums and live DVDs....
His project named "the powergrade" features his funky guitar playing and contains rock and technobeats as well-the debut Cd was released in June 2001
and gets great international critics!
2002 he played one of the most important Jazzfestivals in Europe(Jazzfest Wiesen) with this project and toured through Austria and Germany.
Due to his continuous work, he is often mentioned as a great player like Frank Gambale and Scott Henderson!
In November 2002 G.G. records his new Cd in Santa Fe/USA with some of his favourite musicians: Bob Berg,Gary Willis and Kirk Covington-
release in Fall 2003 on Universal music!
Talking about style, you could file “the powergrade “under jazz, fusion and funk – but always with a great attitude in rock.
Definitely they are not into weird noisy, repelling and disturbing stuff – moreover they even leave some space for the more mellow sounds.
The Powergrade is an
"All Austrian Superband”
as one guy defined it after a concert.
We communicate between each other through our music.
Music from us for us!
Communication is the source for creating something new.
The Powergrade feel commited to that!
Contemporary Power Funk” they call their style. Gerald Gradwohl(THREEO,TANGERINE DREAM) is a versatile instrumentalist, with a lot of colours and sounds to offer.
With drummer Nico Bernhardt und bassist Wolfgang Wograndl he produced a dynamic and colourful fusion album.
The band is definitely best, when Gradwohl burns with distortion and competes with Henderson, Gambale or Steve Vai.
Really a great guitar player!
